Signs Your Pet Needs Emergency Care

By: Five Rivers | February 12, 2026

Know when to rush to the vet. Not every health concern requires an emergency visit, but some symptoms demand immediate attention. Your pet can’t tell you what’s wrong, so it’s up to you to recognize the red flags.

Difficulty breathing, severe bleeding, loss of consciousness, and inability to eat or drink are clear emergencies. But other signs are less obvious. If your pet is drooling excessively, stumbling, or showing sudden aggression, get them to Five Rivers Pet Emergency Hospital right away. Vomiting or diarrhea lasting more than a few hours, especially with blood, warrants a call.

Abdominal pain is serious too. Watch for a hunched posture, whining, or refusal to move. Trauma from falls or accidents always needs evaluation, even if your pet seems fine initially.

When in doubt, call us at (423) 581-9492. Our team would rather answer questions than have you wait. We’re open 24/7 in New Market, TN, and we’re ready to help when your pet needs us most.
