Why Pet Blood Donors Are Critical Heroes
Pets in trauma, shock, or experiencing life-threatening blood loss or anemia need transfusions immediately. Without safe blood available, emergency vets lose precious time and critical treatment options. Having healthy donor blood on hand saves lives and gives us the best chance to help severely injured or ill pets survive.
The need is constant. Trauma accidents, toxin exposures, severe infections, and blood disorders don’t follow a schedule. By becoming a donor, your healthy pet becomes a hero to families facing the worst moments of their pet ownership journey.
We make donating simple and safe. Your pet must be healthy, within certain age and weight ranges, and current on vaccinations. The actual donation takes about one hour, and your pet returns home the same day. We provide free bloodwork and health screening to ensure your pet is a safe donor.

Got Questions?
Is blood donation safe for my pet?
Yes. Blood donation is safe when your pet is healthy and the process is managed by trained professionals. We perform thorough health screening and bloodwork before donation to ensure your pet is an ideal candidate. The donation process itself takes about one hour, and most donors recover quickly. We monitor your pet carefully throughout and provide comprehensive post-donation care instructions and support.
What are the requirements for pet blood donors?
Generally, donor pets should be: healthy with no chronic medical conditions, between 1-7 years old, weigh at least 50 pounds (dogs) or 10 pounds (cats), current on all vaccinations, and have a calm, friendly temperament. We’ll perform complete bloodwork to confirm blood type and screen for infectious diseases. Each potential donor’s suitability is evaluated individually—call us to discuss whether your pet qualifies.
How often can my pet donate blood?
Dogs can typically donate blood up to 3-4 times per year, with at least 6-8 weeks between donations to allow complete blood replenishment. Cats can usually donate 2-3 times per year. We space donations carefully to maintain your pet’s health, well-being, and iron levels. We monitor each donor to ensure they remain healthy and strong.
What does my pet receive for donating?
Your pet receives free health screenings, comprehensive bloodwork, and ongoing veterinary care as part of our donor program. We provide free annual exams, regular health monitoring, and consistent check-ins to ensure your donor pet remains healthy. More importantly, your pet becomes a hero—their blood directly saves lives during critical emergencies in our community. Many donors enjoy knowing they’re making a real, meaningful difference.
